The young boy's parents discovered his body in his room at his Connah's Quay home on 19 November 2021.

False Allegations Begin

The investigation learned how his mother got a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her child. The communication added: "Tell him thanks for breaking into my flat."

In a statement presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's ashes had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from police later concluded the supposed burglary complainant had "provided false information" and "it now appears that the property was not stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged stolen remains attracted online comments, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his parent said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she said.

Mental Health Impact

She explained that her son had been diagnosed with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other individuals' views really mattered to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

Kai was arrested at home, but no evidence was found. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest heard, but had not reached out to the family by the moment of his passing.

Withdrawal and Worry

His parent said her son "became isolated" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could seem like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged burglary, she said her child told her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the toilet whenever he wanted, but denied removing anything.

Digital Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her child was being harassed digitally after the accusations.

The inquest heard that one 19-year-old urged the teenager to end his life.

She had no worries on the night before he died, describing how she had heard him "laughing and joking".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is totally shattered".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The hearing heard from educational personnel at Connah's Quay High School.

On 8 November, she "heard some students talking that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the staff member said she called the family's parents' telephone and provided a message saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The proceedings learned his parents said they did not receive that message.

Official Conclusion

Senior coroner informed the hearing he would await reports regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with suspects with the condition, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative finding, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Probably untruths were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the platform of social media.

"On 11 November, he was questioned by the police and after his interview he was released whilst investigations proceeded."

The coroner determined: "Exists no proof that the actions or failures of any agency caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the result of a personal action it is impossible to determine his purpose."
